The D.O.V.E. Project

supporting people
with learning disabilities

background information
We started in 1981 by providing residential care at Didworthy Grange near the village of South Brent, Devon. This was a large care home set in 4 acres of grounds providing accommodation for up to 22 people with learning disabilities.

day opportunities and vocational experiences
Growing rapidly on the success of its commitment to people with learning disabilities, the home expanded into the provision of day opportunities and experiences by using the grounds of the home. This facility was founded in 1995 and D.O.V.E was formed.

residential care
The D.O.V.E Project still values what specialist residential care can offer to some individuals. In 1999, we opened 'The Bungalow' which is a registered care home for 2 adults with complex needs. The people living in the home are provided with specialist and intensive support according to their individual needs.

supported living
At the same time as the Day Opportunities programme was growing in 1996, The D.O.V.E Project began assisting people to move into their own accommodation and to provide them with a 'Supported Living Service'. In 2001, the supported living service expanded greatly with the oncoming of 'Supporting People. With the planned closure of Didworthy Grange in 2003, the majority of people who lived there, were assisted to find homes that are truly their own and in communities of their choosing. In December 2006 we set up a new service in Cornwall. It's a tailor made service design around what the person needs and wants which is similar to our Supported Living. However, this service is intended for people with complex needs requiring 24/7 care and support. It's known as the "Persons Centred Support Services". We identified the personal needs and wants through an extensive process called "Service Design and Working Policy". Throughout its existence The D.O.V.E Project ethos has remained the same.

“to never put any limitations on any person’s potential”

“to progress the lives of people with learning disabilities by providing the highest standard of support”
