day opportunities

The D.O.V.E Project established Day Service provision within South Devon and Plymouth in 1996 and 2000 respectively. The aim of the service is to provide community work and social opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, through a person centred approach. People attending the project are encouraged and enabled to experience new activities on an individual and group basis. This helps to develop a sense of self-respect, individual worth and the ability to co-operate
and work with others.

personal development
A programme of activities is on offer to enhance Personal Development. Some of the popular sessions are: silk painting, silk card making, calico printing, glass painting, pastel drawing, felt making, hand-made card making, talking with confidence, Plymouth past and present, local access and networking and topical discussions. The aims and purpose
of these sessions are to give individuals the opportunity to develop and build on new skills and promote self-confidence and social interaction.

work preparation
The work preparation programme promotes work related theory sessions such as; Health and Safety, Food Hygiene
Awareness, PCP in the workplace, Interview Skills, First Aid, Manual Handling, Telephone Skills etc. This enables the
individual to gain the confidence and independence required to progress in the work place.

community work
The community work teams work closely with the National Trust, Dartmoor Wildlife Trust, Ivybridge Town Council and Plymouth City Council as well as several local community organisations. Some of the skills developed are; team work, maintenance and the safe use of tools, woodland and park management and litter picking etc. The aims and purpose of these sessions are to promote self-esteem, self-confidence and to provide valued work and new work skills and enable community integration.

funding
Funding for the day opportunities programme can be met through a variety of methods. This can include income support, state benefits, local and or health authority financial assistance, I.L.F and on occasion the individual's or carer's own financial resources. We would be pleased to discuss matters with you in confidence, if funding is an area
that concerns you.
